ARSENAL
After finishing strongly in the league last season, Arsenal
have added quality between their bars in Petr Cech in what was a major coup for
the North London club. Despite Cech’s acquisition and such a fee, Arsenal are
two signings away from a genuine premier league challenge. Wenger’s side still
need a striker and a central defender to look like a side ready to challenge on
all fronts. Arsenal have only Giroud who is not a proven 20 league striker and
Mertesacker does not look like the kind of defender needed for a premier league
charge. If reports re to be believed then Wenger may be on course to shore up
the two positions bereft of quality and give Arsenal faithful’s a campaign they
deserve.
CHELSEA
Chelsea has had a quiet transfer window by their standard
and has only added Falcao and Begovic and are yet to target any significant player
to add to their already rich squad. But before we criticize Chelsea, we must remember
that they were champions by some distant and may just need to make little
additions to their squad. But to say the blues are ready to run away with the
title again may sound too easy when you consider significant additions their
title rivals have made. Improving certain positions may be needed as Hazard
remains the only player capable to doing the unpredictable and that will soon
make him a targeted man in the Chelsea team. A capable right winger may be
needed to reduce the pressure on Belgian wing wizard and give Chelsea more
options going forward. They have been linked to Barca’s Pedro but they may face
stiff competition from United as recent rumours have emerged of their interest
in the player.
MANCHESTER CITY
They have been more interested in adding to the number English
players within their squad to be able meet the quota needed for registration. This
has led to the astronomical £49 million acquisition of Liverpool young English winger
Raheem Sterling which was followed by Delph and Roberts which brought their
spending to around £68 million. To say these signings solves the deficiencies
in a city squad that were weak in defence and midfield asks questions about why
all the players they have been linked to has been in the attacking department.
Kompany and Toure have the experience but they show signs that age is beginning
to take a toll on their ability, one would have imagined adding a defender and
a central midfielder of massive ability would have made a whole lot of sense. Only
the manager knows what he wants but with finances available to them I fancy
them making a move to fill these positions with the requisite players needed to
marshal these vital positions.
