FOOTBALL WEEKEND HANGOVER

Last week got everybody’s eye rolling as the pre-season got into full gear as fans far and wide were glued to their seats to watch their clubs after being starved so long from their regular weekend activity. As various teams wind up their pre-season preparations it has been an eventful from Mourinho’s usual mind games to van Gaal's sarcasm and Wenger’s usual voyeur antics. We will
break down the events that caught our attention.

The transfers

United, City and Liverpool are throwing all the have into this window to fulfill their individual desired ambitions, while the later look to muster a campaign capable of returning them into the European games, united and city look to build a squad capable of challenging for the title. The direction of their transfer targets look different as one look to raise its English quota the other is going round recruiting youth and experience. As van Gaal look to continue reshaping the defective squad he inherited and city still looking to improve certain areas, it will be unwise to say they are done from the transfer market. Other teams have made minor additions but it would have to be remembered that they have stronger squads compared to the aforementioned names. Players like Sterling, Depay, Benteke, Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger are some of the names expected to hit the ground running immediately the season kicks off.

The mind games

When the transfer window started we all leapt in joy because we all wanted to see which players each club would move after but little did we know we were in for the usual mind games that goes on   in the premier league. Some managers have just refused to focus on their teams and think about which players to recruit. Now Mourinho seems to be Wenger’s greatest ally in a marriage that may crumble before it started. Wenger was first to fire the first missile when united announced a number of transfer dealing, he went on to say

This statement was met with snobbish silence from Old Trafford who are used to Wenger’s rant and describe him as the self-acclaimed all-knowing manager who thinks his brand is superior and adopted by every football team on the face of the planet and has  been described as a voyeur by his new love partner who has gone on to support him by say

But this is expected from any top manager, they try to use the slightest opportunity available to them to create disbelief in opposition teams, a classic tactic as old as when competitive football started. Finally when the press presented van Gaal the oppourtunity to respond, he did in an indirect manner by pretending that what the opposition did not matter to him but to realize he indirectly told wenger to mind his business or keep ranting and told Mourinho to about his bus parking tactics and also wondered how many people he has thought such an unattractive brand of football. Van Gaal said:

With so much being said, what remains to be heard when the season starts remains to be heard but so early in the season much is being done to unsettle opposition

Pre-season matches

With pre-season matches almost being concluded Manchester united and arsenal have a near perfect record as both a yet to draw a game. Liverpool has been impressive but the quality of opposition raised actual question marks about ha prepared they are ready for the new season. Chelsea where left stunned by New York red bulls but came from behind against PSG. Manchester city rose to the occasion in their first pre-season match but were brought back to earth by a rampant Real Madrid side, Barca saw off LA galaxy challenge but ran short of luck when they came up against united. it is well known that pre-season results never tells the actual story when the season kicks off so fans should not be celebrating so soon because the season is yet to kick off.

The rising stars

The pre-season is a time to give some of the youth team players a run in the first, some have grabbed the opportunity presented with both hands while some has simply failed to rise to the occasion. So far Andreas Pereira of Manchester united, Kelechi Ihenacho of city, Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Sergi Samper of Barca has been the young players keeping their club supporters on the edge of their seats and hoping one breaks through this season
