UNITED FOCUS: MANCHESTER UNITED 0 vs P.S.G 2: FIVE THINGS WE LEARNED

Manchester united appeared in their final game of the pre-season tour after an impressive performance in the previous games only to turn up an unconvincing performance. Despite there much impressive showing in the transfer window there are still areas that need
addressing before the transfer window shuts down. Have a look at our five talking points

David De Gea mind obviously not with united

For the first time since I watched de Gea in united colours, this was one match I questioned his commitment in a match. He look unhappy, and manned his box without authority. On a good day the two goals conceded were chances he dealt with comfortably. It will be wise now for united to concede defeat and let the young Spaniard go, United cannot go into a season hoping to challenge on all fronts with a keeper who is not committed.

Is Van Gaal losing faith in Anders Herrera so soon?

Carrick and Schweinsteiger are class acts past their prime, their experience counts but it’s not the type of midfielder’s van Gaal should but a team to challenge on all fronts on. Let Him not forget when United’s midfield was unconvincing last term Herrera was the shining light that helped propel united to a top four finish. United’s midfield lacked mobility as the aforementioned duo just tucked in and sprayed passes to all quarters of the field but there was little to show where it was needed as united lacked the movement to make that telling pass. When Schneiderlin and Schweinsteiger were announced I dreamt of a midfield a youthful midfield pairing of Herrera and Schneiderlin.

Blind experiment may fail if a capable partner is not bought

Blind possess all the necessary qualities a typical van Gaal defender needs, he has the brain, the technical ability, wonderful passing range but his strength and height are serious question marks about his suitability to play in such a position in the premier league. His position is guaranteed but his partner is where the issue lies. Both Jones and Smalling are the most unrealiable duo and Mcnair is does not have the experience to do so. What will happen in the next few weeks of the transfer window will shape how such a critical this position will be for united.

Pereira has what it takes to make it at united but not on the wings

When the end of year awards came, one name was on everybody’s lips that’s Andreas Pereira the young Brazilian born in Belgium and recruited by the great Sir Alex was showing a lot of promise. Many united fans who did not follow the U-21 were eager to see what he was made of, that he duly showed during the U-20 world cup. His performance during this pre-season tour has been nothing short of breathless but on the wings against P.S.G was nothing to talk about. He lacked the pace needed to dominate the wings and that would count against him in the premier league

Matteo Darmian already looks like the bargain of the season

When his deal was announced, united fans rarely knew who He was. But since this pre-season there is a feel good factor that Gary Neville’s successor has finally arrived. A right back that combines pace, steel and resolute tackling abilities and for the price he arrived at, its an absolute steal.
